Old Man Winter, a photo from New York, Northeast

Photographer's Note

Old Man Winter did not want to loosen his steely grip even though it was mid-April.
It was well above freezing when I took this picture but overnight it was not and the sun doesn't penetrate down at the bottom of the falls. It was not too cold for the dogs as they took a refreshing dip in the pool.

Hello Tom! You must be kidding, this looks like DECEMBER :))) but then again, our mountains have still a very heavy white cover too but the lowlands have changed to spring. Great shot with these two sides, not an eay task in the half dark, very well managed. Compliments + happy Sunday of course, ours is reaching the end meaning almost dinner time. Barbara.

A very graphic and artistic image indeed, full of contrast and with a peculiar mood. I like the way you divided the photogram diagonally with the trunk and the bluish colour of the water and ice.

Hi Tom,
Yep, that sure looks cold, the icicles hanging off the tree trunk look amazing.
I like the blue hue to the shot, for me, it reinforces the feeling of how cold it is.
Good composition, the two different looking halves of frame works.

It sure looks cold, & the blue color tones in the shadows, help to convey the lack of warmth. Good motion blur of the fg water, with excellent repetition of the icicles on the diagonal branch. Tfs!

This is very bad news, a long winter with a lot ice days.
Happy for us that we here one of the most beautiful spring time, perhaps 35 year ago.

Intersting the water frezeed on the wood but in the background it still running. I think a vertical photo could work better here.

somewhat spooky photo, Tom, like scene from an ice age, hope we're not heading there. great use of longer exposure to blurr the water and add a contrast with the crisp and clear shapes of the ice. I also like the strong blue cast, for me it emphasises the feeling of cold. great shot, even if I'm not too fond of cold.

Tom, this makes me damn cold! I am amazed your dogs went in the water. I like the details of the ice on the log but it still makes me cold. Well seen and presented.
