Redhead Black Ibis, a photo from Florida, South

Photographer's Note

A bird spotted while strolling along the Lake Mirror, lake midtown Lakeland, found in the web that this is a Redhead Black Ibis, A midum size bird.

One WS taken minutes later, had to debate myself which to post as main photo.

Lake Mirror on the map is at 28.044, -81.951.

RAW, F9.0, 1/200, ISO100.

Both are good photos - either could have been the main one. Well taken showing this egret with its splashes of red, a knew for me.

Hello Ike,
I didn't even notice the bird on the thumbnail, but in the larger view it stands out well against the green leaves. It's quite beautiful and I would have been excited at such a sight. The main difference between the two photos is that there seems to be some junk (maybe a bottle?) floating in the water behind the bird in the WS. So you probably made the best choice,

You are a bird spotter, too!
Egrets are very elegant birds, shown well in your photograph, despite its desire to remain camouflaged against the large leaves.
The feather, protruding from the back of its head, is a good identifier. You can see it even more clearly in the w/s.

The water plants are framing well the bird. The point of view is showing the details of the Redhead Black Egret. The light is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

The black feathers have a light blue sheen.
The beautiful egret does indeed have some red feathers on top of its head.
Excellent sharp shot of the bird in wonderful surroundings.

Beautiful bird taking close attention on what is going on in water, just like egrets do. Green leaves look nice too. I think this was the right choice, shine of the leaves is in better control on this one.

Hi Ike.
Very well captured lovely bird. You caught t in a nice pose and in a natural environment.
The main photo feels subtly more colorful with more water reflecting some blue-ish color of the sky.

A sensational image in this close-up where we see the water covered with aquatic plants, the ibis with black plumage stands out wonderfully on them.
