Photographer's Note
Another in my ongoing project to visit and photograph all 50 US state capitol buildings. This series is from Annapolis, the capital city of Maryland.
I'll end my Maryland series with this shot, as it incorporates subjects from several of my other Annapolis shots. You have the wooden dome of the State House itself, of course, but also Ego Alley, this innermost part of Annapolis' harbor; the boat I posted a shot of a while back is also prominently featured here. At the far end of Ego Alley here you can just make out the Alex Haley/Kunta Kinte statue that was the subject of a previous shot.
This shot was taken just after sunrise on an already scorchingly hot Maryland day; it was around 6am when I took this, yet the temperature was already in the low 80s F (almost 30c), and deeply humid. The shot itself looks nice and cool, however, due to the water and the bright pastels of the row houses at the end of Ego Alley.

Hi Andrew:
This is one I think I'll need to visit this summer. Good idea to include a boat with character in the shot. Nice reflections and building colors.
Maybe great minds think alike. Last year I got MN, PA, DE, NJ, NH, NY, VT and ME.
Greetings from Florida..............Greg

Hello Andrew,
This beautiful picture has an excellent depth with the boat on the foreground and the mooring poles at the left side.
Nice reflections in the water, especially of that tower and nice and colourful houses.

Hello Andrew,
Everything comes together beautifully in this photo. The warm sunlight really makes the colors jump out. I like the waterfront facades, and the calm reflections. There's also a nice balance between the boat in the foreground, and the capitol in the distance. It's a smart composition, and a very pretty scene.

Hi Andrew,
Beautiful scene you have found and presented. First of all, you selected a great POV for composing it with the charming water reflections in the foreground. Level of details is impressive and made the pic simply great!

Hello Andrew,
THis is a beautiful photograph, the boat (with a face) taking immediate attention and being closely linked to the colourful buildings by way of the fine reflections. The whole is so nicely balanced, so full of details and just a joy to view.
I wonder if you had thought of making a book of the buildings when you achieve your goal. It doesn't cost a great deal and you can plan and arrange the pages yourself. I did one for my son's wedding and gave it to him and his new wife as a surprise.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Well done, Andrew!
This is a really pretty picture with very attractive colors and immaculate composition. The poles in the water standing in neat rows lead an eye further towards the second plan. The boat is an excellent choice for foreground and the reflection on the water add to the image.
Great light and colors, perfect sharpness.
Thanks for sharing

Hey Andrew,
I love all of the different elements in play here, they get along quite well! :) This vantage point is terrific, getting that straight on look at the boat while still seeing the warm and colorful surroundings. The soft, late afternoon light is the key, setting a tone for the entire image. And again in regards to the compositional strength from this point of view, the reflections contained in the negative space are a thing of beauty. I can see so more other photo ops just within this framework, you must of had a blast walking this area. Easy to say, this is pretty sweet! Enjoy the rest of your evening.
Friendly wishes,
Jason
In reference to your note today, I remember your capitol dome picture extremely well...it's precisely why I took this one.

Bonsoir Andrew
Joli point de vue sur ce petit port. La lumi鑢e permet d'appr閏ier les couleurs des maisons et leurs reflets dans l'eau. Bien fait.

Hi Andrew
Fabulous take rich in colours and brilliant lighting, I love the juxtaposition of strong points; the boat and the tower sitting at the thirds creating a successful composition drawing the eyes through the scene. Good technical quality exquisitely taken, Congrats.

Hello Andrew ,
I rather like the uncluttered approach that you have taken here, the single boat in the FG helps to anchor the scene whilst the architecture of the State building and the colourful buildings are all very pleasantly lit in an imaginative composition.

Hello Andrew,
This is a very appealing photo with lovely warm colors. It is quite different from most of your state capitol pictures by leaving the official building so discreetly in the background. I think it's a good idea to give us an idea of what the immediate surroundings look like. In this composition you have created a very good balance between the capitol building and the boat, with those great reflections in between.
Kind regards,
Gert

A beautifully balanced shot Andrew. The early morning light is so attractive and I love the way you have used the boat to balance the buildings and reflections. I note a lack of highrise buildings and plenty of trees, those factors give the image a lovely provincial look. Top class! Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Andrew,
this is a very lovely photo, elegantly composed, comprehensive and peaceful. Your idea to round up your series with this wide view was great. You have a fine arrangement of attractive elements and the character of this place is brought out in an effective and delightful way. I like very much the diagonal placement of the boat and the dome, the sense of depth and the way the reflections complete the pleasant description. At first I thought this was afternoon light but after reading your note, the mood has changed for me and I realize that light and colours are gradually getting brighter. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
Ourania

Hi Andrew,
The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The distance between the boat and the buildings is giving depth to the scene. The point of view is showing the details and the colours of the buildings. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi Andrew,
From this POV the State House plays and understated role. It is the whole composition and the element of the surrounding that make this image very attractive and pleasant, and the light is perfect with warm hues and the rich tone. The water way, the boat, all make up the whole package that complete this image.
Really beautiful and congrats. I hope it is warming up a bit on the East Coast.

Hello Andrew,
A very tranquil image that is beautifully lit with soft morning light. A well thought-out composition as well - you show us that the main subjects (the boat and the state house) can be pushed quite far to the edge of the picture, while still maintain a good balance that brings the whole scene nicely together.
Best wishes,
Caleb
