Photographer's Note
My mind insists on associating natural forms with familiar shapes or things. In this photo I see a statue of Buddha on the left, his head the isolated rock at the top of the hill and, to the right, Coyote Buttes "teepees" spread like the temples and stupas of Bagan. Even while finding a position from which to take this photo, I was admiring the hill's contorted sandstone and wondering what forces came into play to manipulate the stone in such a fashion. To provide a sense of scale, from its base to the top of Buddha's head the hill is about 75 feet/23 m tall.
In the distance, to the north, are the cliffs that edge the Buckskin Gulch portion of the Paria River Canyon near its start in Utah.

Hello Mark
I like the layers in the rock with the trees on the desert floor. A well taken image with a vivid description to boot. Nice

Hello Mark,
The colour of the ground makes your picture very attractive.
In my country we know not this colour of earth.
Nice panorama view, with variation of structure.
Excellent depth and perspective.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

My mind does the same tricks. When I saw the photo in the Gallery, and before noticing the title, I also saw a Buddha!
