Another view of the lone pine in the etched white rock of White Pocket. This visit to the remote location in the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument surprised me with "pockets" of water in a large number of the depressions in the rocks. A guide I met there said it was the first time in 3 years of visiting the site that he'd seen water there.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Managment, which is responsible for managing the monument, has posted signs at the start of the access road saying that it requires 4x4 wheel drive vehicles to get to it and that AWD is not 4x4. I wonder how many people ignore the sign and then need to be rescued?
