Inside St. Patrick抯

My previous photo showed St. Patrick抯 Cathedral on Fifth Avenue in New York City, so why not photo of the interior of the same cathedral as well? A service was in progress during our visit, but it was possible to take this photo down the central aisle. The cathedral can accommodate 3,000 people and its length is almost 121m. It is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and was built between 1858 and 1878. The cathedral is the seat of the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York.

very nice view, the general aspect of the interior and its structure is well presented. the illumination of the cathedral is perfect and even with the mass you got a nice image. TFS.

Hello Lars,

This is a very appropriate follow up from your last photograph and one which really appeals to me - I just love pictures of church and cathedral interiors.

How fortunate you were able to take a photograph while a service was in progress, but this fine symmetrical composition really does demonstrate the enormity of this cathedral and, in particular, its height. The light must have been quite good, judging by your exif data.

I love the play of light on the ceiling and on the tall columns on either side of the aisle and that gorgeous deep blue light in the windows of the chancel and the clerestory is simply the icing on the cake! Perhaps this was taken in the evening time?

Beautiful light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

Hello Lars,
During the seventies I worked for an extended period in New York in an office on Fifth Avenue just up the road from the cathedral. In all that time, I never ventured inside. It is indeed very impressive. Excellent capture; perfectly exposed with superb colours and clarity. Thanks for sharing.

Schitterende interieur foto van deze namaak Gotische kerk. En wat zitten deze toeristen allemaal braaf in de banken. Ze zitten toch niet te wachten op de paus die niet komt?
Mooi overzicht met de wat donkere kleuren en natuurlijk de fraaie reflectie in het gangpad.

This is a fine photo with excellent symmetry. You handled the light very well and captured the fantastic reflections in the obviously very well polished floor. Maybe that floor is the main difference between this church and a real gothic European cathedral.

Echt een heel mooi beeld van de kerk aan de binnenkant
De vloer blinkt als een spiegel, maar het plafond is echt een beauty.
Ook tijdens de dienst kan men een foto nemen.
Ik heb een paar jaar geleden toestemming gekregen waar het orgel staat mijn statief op te stellen en mooie foto kunnen nemen, weliswaar met heel wat minder mensen in de kerk.
Heel mooi foto werk, bedankt.

Hello Lars,

interesting view from the interior of St. Patrick in tine of the service. Magnificent Gothic nave, even if not so old. But in what is this reflection? Is it marble pavement? It looks like water, very strange.
I like this cathedral and I spent there quite a long time (making pictures, not praying :). But is it really so large> Isn't the other one, I mean Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, larger?

Hello Lars,

I do love to see the interior of such beautiful buildings and appreciate how difficult they can be! You have managed this on a relatively low ISO and without a tripod! Amazing!

The striking feature is the reflection of the altar in the highly polished aisle. It makes the perfect guide through the shadowy congregation to the beautifully illuminated altar area.
It's a photograph full of atmosphere and architectural details; one to be proud of!

Mogelijk heb je heel lang moeten wachten ofwel had je veel geluk dat geen enkele bezoeker zich in het midden bevond en de weerspiegeling verstoorde.
Dit is wel 殚n van de betere interieurfoto's van een kathedraal.
Indrukwekkend gebracht in het verticale formaat.

This splendid panoramic view of the interior of St. Patrick's Cathedral, a perfect neo-Gothic that makes us enjoy, with its elegant arches and columns, the roof is a delight with its elegant ribs.

P.S. I love how your great photos look. I would like to know how you do it, because I reduce the size of the width to 800 pixels, the high is automatically reduced in proportion, then I graduated the quality, so that the image does not exceed 300KB, which is what the norms of the page allow , In order to upload the photo.

Hello Lars,
St. Patrick's Cathedral is so beautiful, and I always enjoy going inside and admiring the architecture and artwork. Great job with the difficult exposure, and I really like the reflections on the polished floor. You never know what you might stumble upon when entering the cathedral; I once visited while a wedding was taking place, and it was completely accidental. :-)

Dag Lars You had the proper chance to have those accessory spotlights on either side shedding the divine light right on the main altar and surrounding nave for a much-pleasing overview masterly captured. Tot ziens. Robert

beautiful interior photo. I like very much the frontal symmetry. The exposition is so well balanced!
Nice that you had a chance to photograph it with people inside and lights on.
The real highlight is the reflection in the centre it adds a surprising effect and is so eye catching.
