Anticipation '17, a photo from Pennsylvania, Northeast

Photographer's Note

Although I am uploading this photo on a Saturday night, most will see it on Sunday, Dec. 3, the first Sunday of Advent �17. Advent season focuses on expectation and it serves as an anticipation of Christ抯 birth in the season leading up to Christmas. This is part of the story, and there抯 more to Advent. By the 6th century, Christians had tied Advent to the coming of Christ. But the 揷oming� they had in mind was not Christ抯 first coming in the manger in Bethlehem, but his second coming in the clouds as the judge of the world. It was not until the Middle Ages that the Advent season was explicitly linked to Christ抯 first coming at Christmas.

This photo was taken at the Festival of Trees held at Neshannock Elementary, Junior/Senior High School. It opens on Black Friday and lasts through Sunday afternoon. Vendors sell Christmas-themed merchandise and different organizations or individuals display decorated Christmas tree either for sale or to be raffled. This is the elementary school抯 gym, where the Christmas trees are displayed.
