Photographer's Note
Our first stop in our Memorial Day Weekend getaway was Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary near Jim Thorpe in the Poconos. Here, we are looking at a monarch butterfly under pink fluorescent lights.
"The monarch butterfly or simply monarch (Danaus plexippus) is a milkweed butterfly (subfamily Danainae) in the family Nymphalidae. Other common names, depending on region, include milkweed, common tiger, wanderer, and black-veined brown. It may be the most familiar North American butterfly, and often is considered an iconic pollinator species, although it is not an especially effective pollinator of milkweeds." (From Wikipedia)
"Monarch butterflies embark on a marvelous migratory phenomenon. They travel between 1,200 and 2,800 miles or more from the northeast United States, and southeast Canada to the mountain forests in central Mexico, where they find the right climate conditions to hibernate from the beginning of November to mid-March." (From WWF)
"In February 2015, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reported a study that showed that nearly a billion monarchs had vanished from the butterfly's overwintering sites since 1990. The agency attributed the monarch's decline in part to a loss of milkweed caused by herbicides that farmers and homeowners had used. Based on a 2014 20-year comparison, the overwintering numbers west of the Rocky Mountains have dropped more than 50% since 1997 and the overwintering numbers east of the Rockies have declined by more than 90% since 1995. According to the Xerces Society, the monarch population in California decreased 86% in 2018, going from millions of butterflies to tens of thousands of butterflies." (From Wikipedia)

Hi Murat
The detail of the butterfly is fine but I would rather see it under natural light.
cheers

Hello Murat,
It's a beautiful butterfly and the photo is very sharp and well taken, but I am not convinced by the fluorescent light. The WS are a lot more natural.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Murat, Monarch butterflies are famous in Mexico when one can observe huge amounts of them. Here we seee just one of them. But why this unpleasant fluorescent light? It is very dusturbing.

Hi Murat, butterfly sanctuaries are authentic lagher and should be abolished like zoos. This poor dead monarch, in this terrible light, is a blow to the heart for a butterfly lover like me and the damnaged without an antenna in the WS too is terrible. I remember my enthusiasm when I saw this species in Cuba for the first time. With global warming, the Monarch can now also be found in southern and central Italy. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Many tones of red and pink, Murat, a very difficult task to take a photo - however, managed fairly well under those conditions.

Ike
