Another cellphone image, as the next you will see.
---Manioc (Manihot esculenta) is a Brazilian plant that was domesticated by Amazonian indians during ages and became one of the main sources of food for Brazilian indians of other regions and for Brazilians during colonization period. It is told Brazil couldn't be created without this root.
Nowadays it is very important food in Africa and tropical Asia too, some countries produce much more than Brazil.
It is a venomous root while crude and you should to expose its interior to the fire and heat to put the poison free. There are many different uses for it,with many different types of floor, it can be fried or cooked too.
It was a lazy Saturday noon and I was in the store working when I saw this man with this huge root in his cart. He was a retired man and was cleaning an a dirty empty urban lot for money when he discovered this very old manioc. Usually a manioc root has the size of an little girl arm and this one was as large as the leg of a very fat man. He was trying to sell the root, but most of people only took photos. In fact big and old manioc roots are impossible to be cooked because they are so hard, anyway he got some fame in the local news. This man (Joaquim) had some health problems and few weeks after this shot he died. A lovely man.
