Photographer's Note
‘Zipaquirá Cathedral’
The small town of Zipaquirá is located 48 km north of Bogotá.
Most people visit it on a day trip from Bogotá. The town has a fast and very regular bus service with the Colombian capital.
Once arrived in the bus station of Zipaquirá most people hurry to the big attraction on the outskirts of town: the salt cathedral (pictures will follow next time).
Although many visitors overlook the centre of town, I found it quite charming.
The Parque Principal is the most beautiful square with Zipaquirá’s real cathedral and a lot of colonial architecture on the other sides.
The picture here shows the cathedral seen from the place where the salt cathedral is hewn into a rock.
That salt cathedral lies completely below ground. So later I will only be able to show pictures of its interior.
In the workshop a closer view of the cathedral on the Parque Principal.

Hallo Paul,

Hello Paul,
All three photos are in the "postcard" category, but very neatly composed and showing beautiful views. You used the trees perfectly as natural frames for the view of the quite attractive cathedral. The rather dark sky and dark hills create a fine background but in the city the light was still very good and allowed you a bright and clear photo.
Kind regards,
Gert

Dag Paul,

Amicalement

Salut Paul
I saw in today's news there was a tour boat disaster sinking in the Medellen Reservoir, in Columbia so I am glad you weren't on it!

Anyway I like the similar vertical shapes of the 2 fg trees and the twin vertical spires of the framed bg cathedral. Good sharpness and high pov. Tfs!

Hello Paul,
I guess the view between the two trees was a "must do' from this POV, but the outcome pleases me.
Wonderfully red stones built, the cathedral is an attractive object in the town's skyline.
Green in the FG and the far side hills made an excellent contrast.
Waiting to see the Salt-Cathedral, obviously its an underground location.
Good evening,
Ike

Ciao Paul

Knap gespot, goed uitgevoerd.

Hello Paul,
Great POV. The cathedral is perfectly placed in between the trees. I like the orange color of the bricks and roofs, and the hills in the distance. Colombia has so many different sights to explore, and you seem to have visited most of them. :-)

Hi Paul,
that was really a long trip and photographically so fruitful!
What a charming composition with nice framing with the trees.
Very picturesque spot and perfectly captured!
The dark clouds add a nice mood here contrasting with well lit buildings.
In spite of being covered in deep shadow the hills also preserved details.
Very impressive picture with so well balanced exposure.
Excellent reportage!

Hello Paul,
LIke you, I would have used the trees in the f/g, for they create a sense of depth as well as naturally framing the scene.
Your photograph certainly concurs with your notes, that this is a most attractive scene, with beautiful and welcoming colonial buildings. From this view, the cathedral has great majesty, as it watches over the town.
In your w/s the arched canvas features give the impression that there may be a concert or a festival about to happen. It would certainly be a lovely place to have an event.
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Bonjour Paul,
