Photographer's Note

If you have got from Podil to Mikhaylovska Square by funicular and you want to go back to Podil, it would be better, if you walk along the shot Desyatinna Street to its confluence with the ancient Volodimirska Street. From there, the most romantic street of Kiyiv begins. In Russian its name is Andreevskiy Spusk (Descent), but in Ukrainian it is titled as Andriyivskiy Uzviz (Ascent). This is how different these two Ukraine抯 most spoken languages are.

At the upper point of this descent-ascent, there is the Kiyiv's most famous and beautiful Andriyivska Church, built in 1747�1754 according to design in Baroque style made by Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Unfortunately, at the moment of capturing, the church still was under renovation. I hope that by the summer 2012, when UEFA Euro is to be held, all churches and cathedrals of Kiyiv will be OK.

Cropping a bit on the lower part could have been an option, to avoid the cars?

You have captured another beautiful church building. The gold on the turquoise blue roof really stands out. The dome shaped roofs of mosques in our country look amazingly liked the Ukrainian church roofs. The architecture influence had spread really far East.

Hi Serghiy,

I remember this church from Andriyivskiy Uzviz from my visit in Lyiv some years ago. The church is so beatiful with its green-gold domes. Looks like a jewel box. I sould prefer it without cars but with it we can't do anything.
