Photographer's Note
Piazza San Domenico is a historic square in Palermo, Sicily. It is located in the neighbourhood of La Loggia, adjacent to the Via Roma, one of the city's principal shopping streets.
The space was formerly known as Piano Imperiale. This was enlarged and transformed into the square during the renovation of the church of the same name, which took took place in 1640.
Apart from the church, seen here in the background, the square is also noted for its monumental column, La Colonna dell'Immacolata (Column of the Immaculate or Column of the Virgin Mary). The column was built in 1728 to fill the square, which was considered to be very bare. It was done in conjunction with the work for the restoration of the facade of the Church of San Domenico.

Good Morning Stephen,
How well the religious and the relaxing merge on this site, the scene is full of light and holiday spirit. I can't think of a better place to stop and have a drink, with so much history and beauty to absorb and photograph, all around you.
A very nicely composed photograph, lovely colours in a well controlled light.
Have a great w/e,
Bev :-)

Ciao Stephen
Buon we

Hi Stephen
this one may just be my favorite of the group so far.
perhaps its the wide open angle and the fact so much is inside the frame.
lovely warm light and colors help too of course.
easy to see why you'd want to stay here.
cheers

Hi Stephen
A lazy "city space" with a beautiful Baroque architecture. The POV could hardly have been chosen more wisely and the composition is balanced and simply grand. Strong vibrant colors... the blue vs the beige. Very enjoyable posting; especially for a fan of Italy like myself.
Cheers Frank

Hello Stephen,
An interesting note and a very fine photograph to illustrate it!
Your use of a wide lens has enabled you to pack a lot into this excellent composition and also allowed you to take in the full height of La Colonna dell' Immacolata as well as the fine façade of the church and the groups of people relaxing under sunshades.
The light and colours are glorious, your exposure perfect and the details and sharpness exquisite.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Stephen, You have been absent on TE for a few days so perhaps you went for another trip. Splendid presentation of this Baroque square. Church and the house on the left and column so beautifully match together and contrast with marvelous sky. Nice holiday atmosphere, to sit there under the big umbrella with granite would be great pleasure.
Warm regard s MAlgo

Hi Stephen
Fantastic warm cold color contrasts between the blue sky and warmer tones of the architecture in yellow red hues. Good sharpness and well framed and composed, with excellent saturation and very good control over perspective placing the verticals centrally.

Hi Stephen
The presence of the people is animating the scene. The length of the piazza is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showinf the details of the column and of the church. The good luminosity is maing the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.
