Photographer's Note
It feels strange to write a “normal” note in this time that is anything but normal. I am thinking of you all, and I wanted to post something for my TE friends. Every day I am checking the news from around the world, and wondering how we are suddenly all living in a kind of bizarre surrealism.
Maybe this mural of famed Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dalí can lighten the mood for just a moment. Life is now like one of his paintings… This mural is the work of Brazilian street artist Sipros, who is known for his characters with big ears.
As in most other locations, the virus is spreading here in New York. Schools, and most other places are closed. All events are cancelled, and we should only go out for food and other essential items. It’s still difficult to process this sudden standstill of daily life, but health is most important. Everyone please take care. We are in this together…

Hello Brenda,
We are only beginning to see the disastrous effects of the pandemic on the world economy, but I am just as scared of the political effects. Xenophobia and isolationism is growing rapidly everywhere. And what will happen to the Democratic primaries? What happens if elections can't be held in November? Could DT be "reelected" without a vote as an emergency measure? (I am busy reading "A very stable genius" by Rucker/Leonnig, so maybe I'm getting paranoid.)
:-(
So how great it is to just enjoy a photo like this in times of pain and worry. It's a brilliant painting and a very good composition. The face is well placed, and the man stepped inside the frame just in time to be a perfect complement to Dali. The brick wall and the immediate surroundings are gritty enough to satisfy me. The sharpness and exposure are also just perfect.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Brenda,I seem to see the recent history of my country. Schools have been closed for 3 weeks, bars for 7 days and i cannot leave the house if i have no valid reasons such as work or food shopping. Unfortunately, good results have not yet been seen, but we must wait at least 2 weeks, so they say. Good luck and thanks for this photo very suitable for the theme.Luciano.

Witaj Brenda!
We all experience it and we ask ourselves the same questions.
We have to wait patiently, there is no other way :(
Interesting mural and scene from street.
Warm regards.

Hello Brenda, even with the very large ears, it is easily recognisable as Salvador Dali. An excellent piece of artwork.
I just wonder why the artist selected this particular wall?
I really like the composition, and the man walking into the frame was perfect .
We are experiencing something that threatens normality, let us hope that the crisis will be over sooner rather than later!
Kind regards
Jean.

Hi Brenda
correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't recall the H1N1 or Sars, having this same effect on the public, with panic and people hoarding groceries and toilet paper. Is it partially the media and the fear mongering going on? who knows. When you think of the first 3 months of 2020, its been HORRIBLE. There were the passenger plain bombings where hundreds of innocent people died, Iran and the US sending missiles at each other, the Kobe Bryant death and his daughter along with 7 others, then this Virus, not to mention all the Secretive news of Genocide that has ramped up in parts of Africa lately - but that news mostly gets burried in our news feeds in North America. It may just be the WORST start of a new year in HISTORY. I say we do a re-do, lets all get in Gert's time machine and start all over. Maybe he's already using it. I wish I could have seen these murals in Manhattan, you'll have to guide me around again :) Show me the sights :) love this one, the face says it all doesn't it! cheers

Hi Brenda,
Quite surprising and funny wall painting. Dali is quite recognizable on that one. Surreal scene on a grey wall.

Hello Brenda,
I think Salvador Dali and his iconic moustache are an excellent choice for a photo accompanied with a note about the bizarre times we are in. A really cool portrait of the the artist on this wall. Very well captured.

Hello Brenda
Another great mural. Your well chosen title is a spot on comment to the situation in the world right now, and of coarse it includes a link to Salvador Dali`s paintins as well. I really hope we manage to fight the virus and deal with the situation. Here kindergartens, preschools and schools closed down last friday - together with lots of other actions, so yes, it`s quite surreal. Well, the mural is impressive and well done and the man is nicely included in the scene. Fine work:) TFS.
Greetings, Erling

Hello Brenda,
Thank you for your thoughtful message.
This is a very well composed, sharply exposed photograph and, to some extent, adds a sense of normality to what we are doing, in these otherwise strange times. It really is an exceptionally good painting!
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hello Brenda,
I love Salvadore Dali and the whimsical portrait here. Cases in Australia have shot up from 50 to almost 500 in just a week with 6 deaths so far. Can individual States in the US ignore Federal policy on the virus & set up their own preventative State measures, or is it what Trump says, goes? Tfs!

Hello Brenda
You're right. We are all in this together. This disease knows no boundaries. Nice to see such art on the walls of New York instead of the usual writings of the famed sidewalk prophets. Awesome image and note. Stay healthy

Good day, Brenda.
Yes, it's a meaningful mural for our world, we live in. Eyes and ears wide open, there are more connections to the virus than we think, a speculative picture of the real substance that created it. Thanks for sharing!!!

Hello Brenda, Excellent comment on the present situation. It all looks surreal like in Dali paintings. The virus affects all of us. I had to return home quite suddenly but it is important to be at home with the family in a difficult time. I do not know how Warsaw looks like because I must stay home in quarantine. I haven't hugged my family when I came back, I have to be 2 m away from them :).
Great mural, I like it very much.
Take care

Hi Brenda
Surrealist moment, everybody stays indoor except to queue to the supermarket to get some food... The man was happy to buy something and comes back home.
Take care

Hello Brenda,
I understand NYC has been hit hard. Stay away from people and wash, wash, wash! 👍🏻👍🏻
I pray we will all live through this and recount how we braced for impact for CV-19.

Hello Brenda,
I understand that it feels strange to write a 'normal note' in these difficult days. It's also strange for me to show photos or to give information on my long journey knowing that most of the world is now in trouble.
Perhaps the best is that we try to continue living the life that we knew wherever we can.
A very funny mural. Of course, all images of Salvador Dalí have something funny. It also looks like he's making an effort to look over the wooden fence.
Did you find this mural in Brooklyn or in Manhattan?
All the best, stay safe!

Hello Brenda,
I like murals painted by good artists, but I hate graffiti of scribbles.
Murals on the wall of the buildings give the city a special atmosphere.
On your photo you show us one of the great mural in superb quality of colors, light and sharpness.
Best regards,

Hello Brenda,
A beautiful fitting piece of art with a slightly distorted head by the master of surrealism. A term that we can use very well for this weird time.
New York is consistently cited as one of the worst hot spots of the virus. Here it seems to be slowly moving in the right direction. But the so-called intelligent lockdown proclaimed here remains in effect.
Be careful and stay safe
Have a nice day, groet Rob

brenda
curious the way the artist of this mural transformed Dali exaggerating some parts of his face, but we can identify him as Dali anyway. I liked the use of elements here with the personage entering in the scene. my little town is one of the last of Brazil with no cases of covid-19, we are like an islet surrounded by the virus.
take care
jorge
