Photographer's Note
This is the Gallery of Columns in Hagia Irene, which is on the south side of the building.
After the conquest of Constantinople by the Ottomans, the church was not converted into a mosque but was used as loot and gun depot (Harbiye Warehouse) for a long time. In 1846, the first collection of artifacts of Turkish museology was exhibited and in 1869 it became the country's first official museum under the name of M鼁e-i H黰ayun (Imperial Museum). The weapons collection was reorganized and it served as the first Military Museum between 1908 and 1930.
Untill recently, the Hagia Irene has served mainly as a concert hall for classical music performances, due to its extraordinary acoustic characteristics and impressive atmosphere. Many of the concerts of the Istanbul International Music Festival have been held here every summer since 1980. It is currently under renovation and partially open as a museum.

Hello Murat,
The need for restoration is evident but I hope it's done carefully. This is such a great building that I wouldn't like to see it spoiled by careless attempts to make it look brand new. I like the green gate at the end of this corridor.

Gert

Hi Murat, this isn't a well preserved zona and i can see well the signs of time on the walls and on the ceiling too,the pic in the WS is a symbol, but the place is still magic, great perspective for the main pic! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Murat,
A great photo of this gallery with its large columns and arches. The play of light is very appealing as well and reveals the details of the old architecture very well.

Hi Murat,
very impressive high ceiling passage. We can clearly see the ancient walls. You have well used the repeated motif of the arched passageways.
There is green at the end of the tunnel.
Very well done,

Hello Murat,
A bit remarkable that the Hagia Irene has served as a concert hall for classical music performances.
I get the impression that the building is in urgent need of maintenance.
Yet it is a wonderful building.
Splendid presentation of the Gallery of Columns with a lot of arches visible behind each other.
Best regards, Paul
