Miriam Inez da Silva (1939-1996) was a painter from Goiás State, she was a naif artist and had a big production of artwork. Her subjects were very rich and she did many series with portraits of popular Brazilian singers in the 1970's, portraits of saints, African-Brazilian religion, daily life of Brazilian people, sins, traditional rural literature and music, Biblical scenes, UFO attacks, circus, popular dancing places,etc..
In these two samples, ever small in format, we have popular tales of CORDEL, a typical literature with a book cover illustrated with naif engravings, a form of art typical from rural north-eastern Brazil.
Here we can see the devil trying to deal with people, in fact I didn't know much about the plot. I presume the one in the upper part shows a man who was a protestant who became a devil, probably showing someone who would want to be religious perfect and wasn't able to do that, but I don't know the plot, can be different.
In the lower part devil is doing a typical challenge of guitars and verses with a talented man , where two singers try to improvise verses according verses created the other said before, it is a typical style of music from Portugal, Spain and Brazil. I could to attach such song, but I guess you won't to listen.
Of course many people has a big prejudice about naif art, saying this isn't real art. I like a lot naif art becase it usually tells more about the people of a nation, their real life and culture, something a Picasso would never would be able to do.

Miriam Inez da Silva (1939-1996) foi uma pintora de arte ingênua, nascida em Goiás. Teve uma grande produção artística cujos temas eram inspirados na cultura popular brasileira, como literatura de cordel, santos, ataques de OVNIs, cantores populares dos anos 1970, cenas de gafieira, pecados, etc.
Mostro aqui duas peças, sempre em formato pequeno, inspiradas na literatura de cordel, na parte de cima parece haver uma crítica às pessoas que querem elevar a santidade e acabam levadas ao caminho oposto, mas como não sei o enredo, pode ser diferente.
Na peça inferior temos um desafio de violeiros entre o demônio e um violeiro famoso, talvez valendo a alma do cantador.
Muita gente tem preconceito com arte ingênua dizendo que não é arte de verdade, mas é um tipo de arte que mostra a alma de um povo, coisa que um artista de elite não consegue mostrar de verdade.
