Photographer's Note

La Bodeguita del Medio into one of the tourist attractions of the Cuban capital, located on Empedrado Street, in the heart of Old Havana. There is so much history there, that a visit to this place can be an unforgettable memory.
La Bodeguita del Medio, is the cradle of the Mojito, a drink prepared with rum, lemon juice, mint leaf, sugar, soda, and ice cubes. Ernest Hemingway was seduced by this specialty since his first drink in that restaurant-bar and regularly visited it to delight his taste with the famous mojitos.
羘gel Mart韓ez, the owner and founder of La Bodeguita del Medio said: 揌emingway visited us when he was given the Nobel Prize and afterwards I was in his house, he brought his friends here to show them his photography because there was a photo of him in La Bodeguita del Medio
Ernest Hemingway Born in Oak Park, a suburbs of Chicago, Illinois spent most of his life either outside the United States or on the periphery of its life, in places like the Florida Keys, the upper plains states, (he enjoyed Montana and Wyoming for their hunting) the Pacific northwest, specifically Idaho, where he moved after Fidel Castro took over his home La Vig韆 and where he ended his life in 1961...and Cuba.
His first stay in Cuba was when he went off with Joe Russell owner of Sloppy Joe's Bar, his favorite Key West hangout for another fishing trip. They sailed to Havana for what was supposed to be a two-day stay. They ended up staying four months. Hemingway took residence at what would be his base in Havana for the next several years, the Hotel Ambos Mundos. As a matter of fact Hemingway made it his base of operations for the remaining years of his life. When Castro came to power in 1959, Hemingway decided to stay on; he had been fully aware of the corruption and abuses of the previous regimes and, naive about Communism, felt he had no reason not to accept Castro as a welcome reformer.
After Hemingway抯 death he became a much-honored cultural hero in Cuba, the government maintains his house as a museum and even having his boat the Pilar transported overland to be the museum's chief attraction.
