Photographer's Note

Lake Taupo is the biggest lake in New Zealand. The lake covers the worlds most destructive volcano, the Taupo volcano. The central plateau area which contains numerous other volcanoes can be seen in the horizon.

The lake has a perimeter of approximately 193 kilometres, a deepest point of 186 metres and a surface area of 616 square kilometres. It is also the largest lake by surface area in the country, and is drained by the Waikato River which is the longest river in New Zealand.
